What We Offer

Funded by the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program, SWEEP-Raíces enhances student engagement through community building and targeted support. The program offers career discussions, networking opportunities, and collaborates with faculty and community partners to strengthen professional and academic pathways in social work.

Community Partnership Opportunities

SWEEP-Raíces enhances constituent engagement through community building and targeted support.  We offer career discussions/pláticas , networking opportunities, and collaborate with faculty and community partners to strengthen professional and academic pathways in social work.  Our efforts are focused on outreach/enrollment, retention supports that lead to graduation, scholarship opportunities, and providing resources and support to all of the grant’s constituents, students, faculty, staff, and community, detailed further below.

Thinking about a Career in Social Work?

NMHU’s FVSSW offers both a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) and Master of Social Work (MSW) program in four program locations in New Mexico, and offers an online MSW program.  Part and full time options are available to meet the needs of students.

If you want to learn more about the profession of social work, learn more about the BSW and/or MSW programs FVSSW offers please contact SWEEP-Raices Director Valerie Valles-Pedroza at  vevalles@nmhu.edu

Current FVSSW Students

SWEEP-Raíces offers student support opportunities where we help students get the most out of their social work education.  Through the development of a three-tier advisement model we seek to meet the multidimensional needs of students during their academic journey. Our Social Work Student Success Series includes opportunities for academic skill building, networking, and professional development while building community with social work peers.  To learn more about SWEEP-Raíces opportunities and resources, contact Elizabeth Garcia, MSW, Special Projects Coordinator at elizabethgarcia@nmhu.edu

Faculty & Staff Support

An important component of our work is providing support to the faculty and staff of the FVSSW by offering training, professional development, resource materials, and in establishing systems of support.  SWEEP-Raíces hosts an annual advisement training for all faculty and staff and will be facilitating the creation of a professional development series.

If you have ideas, suggestions, or would like to get involved in the work of SWEEP-Raíces please contact SWEEP-Raíces Director, Valerie Valles-Pedroza.
